Hello there!
I know this subject has been beating to death already, but I received a newsletter email which brought it up and I thought it was kind of relevant.
Other-Selves is small RPG publisher in Spain that carries some reputable games. The RPG sector, like the boardgame industry, leans very heavily on community-building to survive. What I mean is they depend on online marketing campaigns and crowdfuding to fuel and distribute their projects.
Well, Other-Selves has just annouced they are ceasing their social media presence altogether.
They gave a very detailed explanation of their reasons, but the summary is: social media is no longer increasing sales (and hasn' for years) and it takes a lot of time to maintain. THey could use the time to produce more stuff rather than maintin something thad does not work, so off-the-cliff social media goes.
It is kind of interesting because such a move would have been unthinkable 6 years ago.
